Faculty Research, Teaching and Service
The Biochemistry faculty is a community of 42 members: 25 research-active primary and secondary faculty members, one full-time lecturer, seven adjunct appointees and nine faculty emeriti. The faculty supervise research in biochemistry, molecular, cellular, developmental, computational and structural biology, and in model system genetics. Research is supported by grants from the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, the Muscular Dystrophy Association and other sources. Total research funding for primary members of the department recently exceeded $7 million per year. The department is 4 years into a multiyear expansion which has resulted in hiring 9 new primary appointees.
